Israel-Hamas War, Day 11 Live Updates: At least 500 people have been killed in an explosion at a hospital caused by an Israeli airstrike, claimed Gaza Health Ministry. Earlier in the day, at least six people were killed in an Israeli air strike that hit a school run by the United Nations’ Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA) in Gaza’s Al-Maghazi refugee camp where 4,000 people were sheltering, the agency posted on X. The UN agency said that dozens were injured (including UNRWA staff) and severe structural damage was caused to the school. This is outrageous, and it again shows a flagrant disregard for the lives of civilians.  No place is safe in Gaza anymore, not even UNRWA facilities,” the UNRWA statement read.

The United Nations on Tuesday said that Israel’s siege of Gaza and its evacuation order for the northern part of the enclave could amount to a forcible transfer of civilians and be in breach of international law. The term “forcible transfer” describes the forced relocation of civilian populations and it is a crime against humanity punishable by the International Criminal Court. Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden will visit Israel on Wednesday for talks with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and make clear Israel has the right to defend itself, Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced today. Biden will then fly to Jordan for talks about accelerating humanitarian assistance to Gaza.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei today said Israel’s “genocide” of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip should stop “immediately”. “No one can confront Muslims and the resistance forces if the Zionist regime’s crimes against Palestinians continue … the bombardment of Gaza must stop immediately,” Khamenei was reported saying by the state TV. “We must respond, we must react to what is happening in Gaza,” Khamenei said, adding that Israeli officials should face trial for their “crimes against Palestinians in Gaza”.

While the modern contours of the Israel-Palestine conflict are well-known — Palestinians saying Israel was forcibly established on their homeland, Israel claiming it has every right to exist on its Biblical homeland — how did the Jewish migration to ‘Israel’ first begin? Before the official declaration in May 1948 of the creation of Israel, how was the stage set for it? What was the role played by the British and other Arab powers? (Read more)
