"At that point, it was a no-brainer," said Padmanabhan Krishnamurthy, EzDubs co-founder. "It was the exact setup we needed, with GPU availability that literally no one else had."

EzDubs is not alone. Numerous startups are opting for Azure, attracted by its perceived strength in AI and the availability of OpenAI’s powerful models. In response, AWS has increased the value of credits for startups and launched a new program called Bedrock— offering access to its own AI models, including those from Anthropic, a rival to OpenAI.
Despite these efforts, Microsoft’s tight collaboration with OpenAI gives it a significant advantage in the AI space. Startups, like InKeep and Sync Labs, are choosing Azure for its performance, ease of use, data privacy features, and access to vital resources like GPUs.
"OpenAI has kind of the state-of-the-art models," said Nick Gomez, co-founder and CEO of InKeep. "Being able to say, ‘Hey, no, we don’t [train on customer data], we use Azure, they don’t retain it, they don’t train on it,’ stuff like that, definitely helped to put a lot of folks at ease."

However, the cloud market is rarely winner-take-all. Large companies tend to utilize multicloud strategies for diversification and to leverage the strengths of various providers. "No one can spend $20,000 to $30,000 a month on infrastructure costs," said Prady Modukuru, co-founder and CEO of Sync Labs. "That’s what we needed as a startup."
