Tesla (Tesla) is recalling 11,688 Cybertruck electric pickup trucks due to a windshield wiper failure that can reduce visibility, thereby increasing the risk of a collision, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said.
The recall includes all 2024 model year Cybertruck vehicles manufactured from November 13, 2023, to June 6, 2024. On the affected vehicles, the front windshield wiper motor controller may stop functioning due to electrical overstress to the gate driver component, reducing visibility in certain operating conditions, the recall report read.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 18, 2024. Tesla service will replace the wiper motor, free of charge.
Separately, the company is also recalling 11,383 units of certain 2024 Cybertruck vehicles as a trim in the trunk bed could have been improperly attached. A loose applique can detach from the vehicle, creating a road hazard for following motorists and increasing the risk of a crash.
In April, Tesla (Tesla) recalled nearly 4,000 Cybertrucks to repair a faulty accelerator pedal pad that may dislodge and become trapped by the interior trim.
The EV maker started deliveries of its Cybertruck electric pickup truck late last year, marking the company’s first new model in almost four years.
The electric pickup truck concept was first announced by Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) in 2019, but pilot production could only begin in 2023 amid battery-supply constraints and manufacturing issues.
