Google, Meta to cooperate on generative AI regulation | NHK WORLD-JAPAN News

US tech executives say they will work together to regulate the development of generative AI and secure the safe use of the technology.

Senior officials from Google and Meta attended a special session of a UN forum on internet governance in Kyoto, western Japan, on Monday. They said their companies will work with the international community to define the responsibilities of AI and decide on how the technology should be regulated.

The meeting was a follow-up to the so-called Hiroshima AI Process. That framework was set up in May to create common rules for generative AI use among the Group of Seven countries.

US companies are leading the development of generative AI. But Japanese firms are working on their own versions as they try to gain a foothold in the global market.
