Elon Musk shares screenshot of chat with Mark Zuckerberg as Meta CEO refuses cage fight: Story in 10 points

New Delhi,UPDATED: Aug 14, 2023 17:43 IST

Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg’s apparent cage fight has been hogging the limelight since over a month now. What was earlier being looked at as a fun banter between the two CEOs evolved to strong rumours of the event actually taking place soon. However, from the latest developments, it looks like we might not get to see a fight at all as Zuckerberg has said that he wants to ‘move on’ from the idea of the fight and focus on ‘competing with those who are truly dedicated to the sport’. The sport that Zuck is referring to here is Jiu-jitsu, for which the Meta CEO has been training for quite some time.

But there’s more to this story. Elon Musk, as per a screenshot shared by him, had texted Zuckerberg asking for a practice round of the fight at his home next week. To this, Zuck replied by saying that he should ‘train on his own’ if he really wants to do a proper MMA fight. Here is the full story, in 10 points:

  • As mentioned already, Musk took to Twitter (now called X) to share a screenshot of a conversation between him and Zuckerberg.
  • In the screenshot, Zuck can be seen telling Musk that he must train on his own if he wants to fight seriously and that he doesn’t want to ‘hype something’ that will never happen. “You should either decide we’re going to do this and do it soon or we should move on,” the Meta CEO added.
  • Musk then responded by saying that the duo should fight in Zuckerberg’s Octagon (that he recently put up in his garden). The Twitter owner then added that even though he has not been training much, Zuckerberg is unlikely to win given their size difference. Unless of course, he is a ‘modern day Bruce Lee’.
  • After this, in a Threads post, Zuckerberg said that Musk is not serious about the fight and that he wants to compete with people who take the sport seriously.
  • “I think we can all agree Elon isn’t serious and it’s time to move on. I offered a real date. Dana White offered to make this a legit competition for charity. Elon won’t confirm a date, then says he needs surgery, and now asks to do a practice round in my backyard instead. If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me. Otherwise, time to move on. I’m going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously,” the Meta CEO’s Threads post reads.
  • Responding to this, Musk called Zuck a ‘chicken’.
  • In another tweet, Musk wrote that he can’t wait to bang on Zuck’s door for the fight.
  • Last week, Musk had tweeted that his fight with Zuckerberg would be streamed live on X and that all earnings through the fight will go towards charity for veterans.
  • Responding to Musk’s tweet, Zuck had said in a Threads post that they should opt for a more ‘reliable platform’ that can actually raise that kind of money. “Shouldn’t we use a more reliable platform that can actually raise money for charity?” he wrote.
  • In another tweet, Zuckerberg responded that he is ready to fight the Twitter owner any day and had even suggested August 26 as the date.
