Mass General Brigham is warning Massachusetts patients of an incident that may have involved some individuals’ personal information. The hospital said that between April 2 and 4, Mass General Brigham Health Plan and Mass General Brigham discovered that the personal information of some of their patients and members may have been accessible to unauthorized individuals. For Mass General Brigham Health Plan, the investigation determined that one of its employees may have allowed an unauthorized person to do some of the employee’s job duties and see some its members personal information between July 31, 2023, and April 2. For Mass General Brigham, the investigation determined that two of its employees may have allowed an unauthorized person to do some of the employees’ job duties and see some of MGB patients’ personal information between Feb. 26 and April 4. The hospital said their behavior violated their employment and privacy policies and was done without their knowledge.”As a result, the employees were immediately terminated,” the hospital said in a news release. According to the hospital, the information involved may have included name, address, medical record number, date of birth, email address, phone number, health insurance policy number, and clinical information about visits or admissions to an MGB facility, such as date, type, location, reason for visit and diagnosis. “Some MGB patients also had Social Security numbers and/or credit card numbers involved,” the hospital said in a news release. The hospital said they were notifying individuals whose information was involved in the incident.
