HAD TO HAPPEN. MARY. YEAH, WELL, MARIA LAST FRIDAY A NON NATIONAL GRID CONTRACTOR DAMAGED A MAJOR CABLE UNDERGROUND THAT NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED. YOU CAN SEE RIGHT NOW THAT THE LIGHTS ARE STILL ON. THEY HAVEN’T CUT POWER JUST YET. THAT WILL HAPPEN MOMENTARILY. POLICE ARE HERE. EMERGENCY LIGHTS ARE IN PLACE ON MAIN STREET AND DOWN BEYOND THAT, YOU CAN SEE SOME FLASHING LIGHTS. THOSE ARE THE CREWS ABOUT TO GO UNDERGROUND TO REPAIR THAT CABLE. ON MOST TUESDAY NIGHTS, ISLAND CUISINE WILL HOST A CROWD UNTIL AT LEAST 1 A.M., BUT TONIGHT IT WILL CLOSE BY TEN. THAT’S WHEN NATIONAL GRID IS CUTTING POWER TO 450 DOWNTOWN CUSTOMERS. I’M GOING TO LOSE A BIG BUSINESS. IT’S NOT JUST THAT, BECAUSE WHATEVER I READ JUST COME FOR THE SHOP. SHOP AS IN SEAFOOD WHOLESALER WHERE OWNER PRETO DA SILVA STOCKED UP ON EVERYTHING FROM OCTOPUS TO SHRIMP LIKE SEVERAL BUSINESS OWNERS, HE TOLD US THERE WASN’T MUCH WARNING ABOUT THIS OUTAGE YESTERDAY I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL. I THOUGHT IT WAS A SPAM. I HANG UP THE PHONE. YEAH, AND TODAY IS A THOSE ROBO PHONE CALL. LUCKILY, BROCKTON EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT CAME THROUGH WITH A GENERATOR FOR PRODUCE AND FOR JOE ANGELO’S CAFE TWO DOORS DOWN. I’VE ONLY LOST POWER TWICE IN 32 YEARS HERE, AND WE’VE BEEN VERY LUCKY. THIS IS A MAP THAT NATIONAL GRID PUT OUT. THE IMPACT ED CITY BLOCKS ARE SHADED IN YELLOW. THE POWER WILL BE SHUT OFF FROM 10 P.M. TO 7 A.M. WEDNESDAY. THAT’S WHEN CREWS WILL GO UNDERGROUND TO MAKE EMERGENCY REPAIRS TO INFRASTRUCTURE DAMAGE. LAST FRIDAY BY ANOTHER CONTRACTOR, WE GOT TO REALIZE THAT THINGS HAPPEN AND YOU GOT TO ROLL WITH IT. I’VE BEEN HERE 32 YEARS AND THIS IS MINOR COMPARED TO SOME THINGS THAT HAVE HAPPENED. STEVE FIGUEREDO LIVES NEARBY AND WILL ALSO LOSE POWER. HE SAYS HE’LL PROBABLY JUST TURN IN EARLY TONIGHT. Residents and businesses in part of Brockton are being warned of plans for a 9-hour “emergency power outage” planned by National Grid. The Brockton Fire Department warned that the outage will begin Tuesday at 10 p.m. and last through 7 a.m. on Wednesday.
