“Don’t miss out on this opportunity to save BIG, give back, and start your summer travels off right,” the gas chain’s press release states.

Circle K is partnering with Children of Fallen Patriots. 10% of all Fuel Day profits will be donated to the non-profit organization.

Where to get the deal

There are 6,965 Circle K stores in the United States as of April 30, according to data company ScrapeHero. They are based in 46 states and territories, dispersed among 2,287 cities.

Memorial Day Travel

The American Automobile Association (AAA) is projecting 43.8 million travelers heading 50 miles or more from home over the Memorial Day weekend. That is an increase of 4% over last year, and it comes close to the travel record in 2005 of 44 million.

“We haven’t seen Memorial Day weekend travel numbers like these in almost 20 years,” said Paula Twidale, senior vice president of AAA Travel. “We’re projecting an additional one million travelers this holiday weekend compared to 2019, which not only means we’re exceeding pre-pandemic levels but also signals a very busy summer travel season ahead.”

Road trips are expected to set a record. AAA projects 38.4 million people traveling by car over Memorial Day weekend. That is the highest number since AAA began tracking in 2000.

The number of drivers this year is up by 4% compared to 2023, and it is 1.9% higher than in 2019.

Hertz car rental shows Orlando, Denver, Atlanta, Boston and Las Vegas as the cities with the highest rental demand. The busiest pick-up days are projected to be Thursday and Friday.

Outside of Circle K’s deal, the national average for gas prices are seemingly starting to creep higher as the summer season approaches. The national average on Thursday was at $3.62 for a regular gallon of gas.

Mid-grade is costing $4.07 per gallon on average, and premium’s average is $4.41. Diesel is set nationally at a $3.91 average.

Children of Fallen Patriots

A portion of the proceeds from Circle K’s “Fuel Day” promotion will go to a foundation that provides college scholarships and education counseling to military children who lost a parent in the line of duty.

The Children of Fallen Patriots’ research found that nearly 25,000 dependents have been left behind by troops who died in the line of duty over the past 35 years. Many surviving families struggle, with 53% of spouses making less than $50,000 a year.

The charity’s scholarships help students with expenses for tuition, room and board, tutoring, summer courses, study abroad, living expenses, books and a computer stipend.

On average, students are eligible for up to $6,250 in scholarship assistance per academic year.

“We are grateful to the team at Circle K for giving their customers the chance to fuel up, save big, and give back,” the non-profit posted on Facebook.

Fittingly, May is Military Appreciation Month.

Friday is the last day for Children of Fallen Patriot’s campaign with PepsiCo, Rolling Remembrance.

The over 14,000-mile long relay brings an American flag from Seattle to New York. PepsiCo’s network of U.S. Military Veteran drivers have been using normal business routes to pass off the flag.
