SANDUSKY, Ohio (WJW) – Cedar Fair, the parent company of Cedar Point, is set to merge with Six Flags this summer, company officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Amusement park officials say they told the New York Stock Exchange on Tuesday that the merger, which was first announced back in November, is expected to close on July 1.

Last year, the companies announced they reached a $2 billion deal. They will collectively own 27 amusement parks, 15 water parks and nine resorts spanning 17 states, as well as Canada and Mexico.

As FOX 8 previously reported, the combined company, called Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, will be worth roughly $3.5 billion.

Through the merger, Cedar Fair’s Richard Zimmerman will become CEO and Six Flags CEO Selim Bassoul will be the company’s executive chairman.

The company will be headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Despite seeing a rise in revenue, amusement parks have been dealing with attendance struggles since the COVID-19 pandemic.
