AMD’s upcoming Ryzen 8000 CPUs based on the Zen 5 architecture are reported to feature up to 16 cores with 2 CCDs (8 cores per CCD), 32 MB of L3 cache per CCD, and TDPs that are in line with the current Ryzen 7000 Zen 4 lineup. Now, Paul from RedGamingTech has issued an update regarding the clock speeds of the Zen 5 CPUs and the leak might disappoint some users. Additionally, the leaker has also revealed some interesting information regarding the gaming laptops launching with the AMD Strix Halo APUs.
Starting with the desktop Zen 5, Paul alleges that the desktop Zen 5 parts won’t reach 6 GHz boost clocks as previously reported. The leaker suggests that the Ryzen 8000 chips could have the same clock speeds as Zen 4 or may even regress slightly. The report is certainly disappointing if true, as this means that the bulk of the performance gains promised by the Ryzen 8000 CPUs could come from IPC improvements, rumored to be 19% on average, and not clock frequency enhancements.
Moving on, the AMD Strix Halo APU, codenamed “Sarlak”, which is expected to feature Zen 5 CPU cores and an RDNA 3+ iGPU could debut inside the ASUS TUF gaming laptops. The leaker claims that TUF gaming notebooks rocking Strix Halo APUs could come with 24/48 GB of LPDDR5 memory and up to 99 Wh battery.
Furthermore, the Strix Halo chips inside the purported ASUS TUF machines are reportedly 12-core/32 CU and 16-core/40 CU configurations.
Finally, as said by Paul in his video, take the information with a grain of salt as rumors and leaks are often wrong.
