First up, Paul shares that the AMD Zen 5 processors will enjoy an IPC gain of around 20-30% in single-threaded mode. However, the actual IPC uplift could be higher according to multiple sources but the leaker is “remaining skeptical for now”. The news of 20-30% IPC improvement is an increase over the 19% figure that Paul reported last month.
Moving on to clock speeds, the leaker doubles down on his previous report of a slight clock regression in Zen 5 vs Zen 4, as the Ryzen 8000 processors could have clock frequencies 200-300 MHz lower than the Ryzen 7000 chips. Similarly, the Zen 5 CPUs will have wider decoders, SMT-2, 8-cores per CCD, and larger L1 and L2 caches, all things that we’ve already heard from Paul.
Finally, the Zen 5 release date could fall sometime in Q2 2024 with the X3D chips debuting in late 2024. However, Paul also asserts that the release date could be off by one quarter.
All in all, it appears that the AMD Zen 5 Ryzen 8000 processors might bring a substantial IPC gain of up to 30% or even more but could significantly cut back on clock speeds. But, as is the case with leaks, take the information with a healthy dose of skepticism.
