AMD Radeon RX 7700 and Radeon RX 7800 performance leaked in new benchmarks

With rumors circulating that AMD is planning to release its mid-range RDNA 3 graphics cards in September, we’ll know a lot more about the Radeon RX 7700 and Radeon RX 7800 GPUs coming in the coming months. Starting today, with allegedly leaked benchmarks for these GPUs running the popular 3DMark Time Spy synthetic benchmark from @All_The_Watts on Twitter.

With the flagship Radeon RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX in the wild, which have recently been joined by the mainstream Radeon RX 7600, a big gap in the lineup is ready to be filled. The consensus is that AMD has delayed the launch of its midrange offerings for its latest generation Radeon graphics due to the availability and discounted sale of existing RDNA 2 stock.

But with stock levels dropping to the point that it’s hard to find brand new Radeon RX 6000 series cards in many regions, now is the time for AMD to launch some new GPUs. And speaking of time, these results from Time Spy show that the Radeon RX 7800 outperforms the GeForce RTX 4070 by around 5%, with the Radeon RX 7700 beating the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti by another 15%.

That said, according to this chart from an industry insider @harukaze5719we see that the performance of the Radeon RX 7800 is essentially identical to that of the Radeon RX 6800 XT, with the Radeon RX 7700 being on par with the base Radeon RX 6800. With that, much of the incentive to choose either GPU will come down to price – with the expectation that both will fall into that mid-range sweet spot of $400-$600.

Of course, as a DirectX 12 synthetic benchmark running at 1440p, it doesn’t represent gaming results. expect when gaming – but that’s not a 1:1 translation. So what we see here indicates that the Radeon RX 7800 will deliver similar performance to the GeForce RTX 4070, RTX 3080 and Radeon RX 6800 XT – with the hope that it will feature 16 GB of VRAM.

Hardware-wise, the Radeon RX 7800 is expected to use the new Navi 32 GPU with 60 compute units and feature a multi-chip design (MCD) similar to the flagship Radeon RX 7900 combo. TweakTownwe’re very keen to test both new GPUs, so stay tuned for that and other leaked benchmarks as they appear online.
